How to Style a Long Camel Coat
Share
A long camel coat is one of the easiest pieces of outerwear to build around because the colour works with black, cream, denim, grey, chocolate brown and other warm neutrals. The right styling can make the same coat feel casual, polished or evening-ready.
1. Camel coat with denim
For everyday wear, pair a long camel coat with straight-leg or relaxed denim, a fine knit and ankle boots or clean trainers. Keeping the base outfit simple allows the colour and length of the coat to do most of the work.
Our Brontë Coat in Camel has a structured silhouette and removable belt, so it can be worn open for a relaxed line or belted when you want more definition.
2. Layer camel over cream
Camel and cream create a soft tonal combination that feels polished without looking overly formal. A cream turtleneck works especially well because it keeps the neckline clean beneath a high-collared coat. Explore our cashmere turtleneck for this type of layering.
3. Wear it with black for contrast
A black base gives a camel coat sharper contrast. Black trousers, a black knit and boots create a straightforward winter uniform that works for both work and evening plans.
4. Use the belt selectively
You do not need to belt a long coat every time. Leaving it open creates a long vertical line; tying the belt at the waist produces a more tailored silhouette. You can also tie the belt loosely at the back when you want the coat to stay open but still look controlled.
5. Camel coat for the office
Layer a long camel coat over tailored trousers, a fine-gauge knit or shirt and a structured bag. The coat works particularly well with charcoal, navy, ivory and black tailoring.
6. Evening styling
For evening, a long camel coat can sit over a simple dress and heels or sleek boots. Keeping jewellery and accessories restrained lets the coat remain part of the outfit rather than just a layer you remove at the door.
7. Add texture with a scarf
If the outfit underneath is minimal, a cashmere or woven scarf can add texture. Browse our luxury scarves or, on milder days, use the Brontë's funnel neck without an additional scarf.
Choosing the right camel coat
Look for fabric quality, a flattering length and enough room for winter layers. A camel coat should feel timeless rather than trend-dependent. For other natural-fibre options, explore our Luxury Women's Coats or read our guide to the best natural fibres for winter coats.
